Hello All, Just wanted to put in my two cents worth here. I was diagnosed with PSD in 1996 when I was about 4 months pregnant with my second child. I guess from what I understand, there wasn't a whole lot of information on PSD or how to treat it then. My doctor sent me to a fetal maternal specialist who sent me to a neurologist. He was the one who decided to test me for PSD. He was the one who gave us the news and told us what to expect. I was his guinea pig I guess. He put me on one lovenox shot a day. Shortly after I had a TIA so he put me on two shots a day. Towards about the 7th month I had a really nasty TIA, that landed me in the ER and on OB floor all night. Thats when he put me on 3 shots and said if that didnt work he may have to put me in the hospital on IV heparin for the duration of my pregnancy. However it worked well and I went into labor on my own at about 39 weeks. I wasnt allowed an epidural because they were afraid of bleeding in my spinal column. So I went the journey on my own. Whew!!! Its rough when you were allowed pain relief the first time around but not the second. LOL. Anyway I had a healthy daughter and was to remain on lovenox shots for about 2 weeks I think. Only he lowered my dosage to two. I only had one TIA, but it passed quickly after I took my shots. He took me off of any blood thinners to see how I would do and he did blood tests again, to see where my PS levels were. I ended up having a pretty significant TIA shortly thereafter so he put me on coumadin. I stayed on coumadin for about 3 or 4 years, but I was a bad girl and did not go get my levels checked like I should have. He took me off of it because he was frustrated with me and thought we would just try aspirin for awhile and see if that would work. It did not of course. Had a TIA. That was when he put me on plavix and I have been on it ever since. Every once in awhile I will have a TIA. But they are always mild and go away quickly. That only happens maybe once or twice a year. I guess I can live with that. My daughter has been tested but my son has not yet. I think my mom has it because of some vision problems she has described to me. But getting her to go get tested is like pulling teeth. Anyway good luck to everyone getting pregnant. Best of luck to you all Shannon PS I forgot to say that i did have two misscariages before I got preg. the second time and I had one miscarriage after her. I went and got my tubes tied. I just couldnt deal with the heartache or worry again. I had two beautiful kids and that s good enough for me.
